Chapter 27 & 28

The Rathore Mansion had fallen into complete silence.

The cheerful atmosphere that had filled the mansion during the evening had long disappeared.

The hallways were now quiet, with only the soft ticking of the antique grandfather clock echoing through the luxurious corridors.

Most of the lights had already been switched off.

The servants had returned to their quarters after finishing their duties.

Everyone had retired to their respective rooms.

Meanwhile...

On the second floor...

Two tall figures walked through the dimly lit corridor.

Rudra Rathore.

Veeransh Rathore.

Neither of them spoke a single word.

Both brothers were lost in their own thoughts.

The guilt they had been carrying since evening still weighed heavily on their hearts.

Veeransh finally broke the silence.

"Bhai..."

Rudra glanced at him.

"Hmm?"

Veeransh sighed.

"Pata nahi kyun... mann bahut uneasy lag raha hai."

(I don't know why... I have a really uneasy feeling.)

Rudra's expression remained unreadable.

"Mujhe bhi."

(Me too.)

For the first time in years...

The two brothers felt restless.

Not because of business.

Not because of enemies.

But because of one innocent girl.

Vanya.

After thinking for a few moments...

Veeransh spoke again.

"Ek baar usse dekh lete hain."

(Let's check on her once.)

Rudra looked ahead.

After a brief silence...

He nodded.

Without wasting another second...

Both brothers walked towards Vanya's room.

Soon...

They reached outside her door.

Just as Veeransh was about to knock...

Both of them suddenly froze.

A voice...

Someone was talking inside the room.

Veeransh frowned.

"Iss waqt?"

(At this hour?)

Rudra narrowed his eyes.

The servants had already finished their work.

According to the mansion rules...

No servant was allowed to roam around the mansion after working hours unless specifically instructed.

Then...

Who was inside Vanya's room?

Both brothers exchanged a glance.

Instead of knocking...

They quietly stepped closer to the door.

The room wasn't completely closed.

The door was slightly open.

Just enough to see inside.

Without making the slightest sound...

Both of them looked through the narrow gap.

The moment they saw the person inside...

Their brows furrowed.

Kalpana.

She had entered Vanya's room a few minutes earlier.

Veeransh frowned deeply.

"Yeh yahan kya kar rahi hai?"

(What is she doing here?)

Rudra didn't answer.

His sharp gaze remained fixed inside the room.

Inside...

Kalpana stood beside the study table.

A satisfied smile appeared on her face.

In her hand...

She was holding Vanya's half-filled water bottle.

Looking at the bottle...

She chuckled softly.

"Toh tumne pee hi liya..."

(So... you finally drank it...)

She gently rotated the bottle in her hand.

Completely unaware...

Outside the room...

Rudra and Veeransh silently watched everything.

Kalpana slowly turned her head towards the bed.

Vanya lay peacefully under the blanket.

Her eyes remained closed.

Her breathing was calm and steady.

Kalpana smiled victoriously.

"Agar tum itni clam aur itni intelligent na hoti..."

(If you weren't this clam... or this intelligent...)

She laughed quietly.

"...toh mujhe tumhe control karne ke liye is manipulation liquid ka istemaal hi nahi karna padta."

(...then I wouldn't have needed to use this manipulation liquid to control you.)

She slowly walked a little closer to the bed.

Looking at the sleeping girl...

She folded her arms.

"Bas do aur dose..."

(Just two more doses...)

A cruel smile spread across her lips.

"...phir tum poori tarah mere control mein hogi."

(...and you'll be completely under my control.)

Outside...

Veeransh's fists clenched tightly.

The veins on his hands became visible.

His breathing turned heavy.

Manipulation...

Liquid...

Control...

Every single word made his blood boil.

Rudra's expression also darkened.

His jaw tightened.

But despite the anger burning inside him...

He remained silent.

His eyes never left Kalpana.

Inside the room...

Kalpana looked at the sleeping Vanya and smirked.

Then...

She began talking to herself.

"You fool..."

She shook her head mockingly.

"Temple ke baare mein batate hi tum seedha jaakar pooch baithi."

(The moment I told you about the temple, you immediately went and asked.)

She laughed under her breath.

"Aur uske baad bhi tumhe mujh par shaq nahi hua."

(Even after that, you never suspected me.)

A proud smile appeared on her face.

"Sirf do aansu baha kar maafi maangi..."

(I only had to shed two tears while asking for forgiveness...)

"...aur tumne mujh par poora bharosa kar liya."

(...and you trusted me completely.)

Outside the room...

Rudra's eyes widened ever so slightly.

Veeransh's face froze.

Everything...

Everything suddenly started making sense.

The temple.

Everything.

Kalpana smiled proudly.

She slowly walked around the room, admiring her own plan.

"Ab..."

She looked towards the sleeping Vanya.

"Rudra Sir aur Veeransh Sir tumhe bilkul pasand nahi karte."

(Now... Rudra Sir and Veeransh Sir don't like you at all.)

She chuckled.

"Aur bahut jald..."

(And very soon...)

A cruel smile spread across her lips.

"...iss ghar mein koi bhi tumhe pasand nahi karega."

(...no one in this house will like you.)

Outside the room...

Veeransh lowered his head.

His chest tightened painfully.

Those words...

Were true.

Because of Kalpana's manipulation...

They had unknowingly hurt Vanya again and again.

Rudra's jaw clenched.

For the first time...

He realized how easily they had fallen into someone's trap.

Inside the room...

Kalpana slowly bent down near the bed.

She looked at Vanya's peaceful face.

"Aur uske baad..."

(And after that...)

She smiled wickedly.

"...tum sirf wahi dekhogi jo main tumhe dikhana chahti hoon."

(...you'll only see what I want you to see.)

She straightened herself.

Then...

Her gaze landed on a small snack box placed neatly on the bookshelf.

A satisfied smile appeared on her face.

"Perfect."

She walked towards it.

Outside...

Rudra and Veeransh silently watched her every movement.

Neither of them knew what she was planning.

Kalpana carefully picked up the snack box.

She slowly opened the lid.

Inside...

Sunita Aunty's homemade snacks were neatly arranged.

Kalpana smiled.

"Tumhe toh snacks bahut pasand hain na..."

(You love snacks, don't you...)

She took out the tiny bottle from her pocket.

Only a few drops of the strange liquid remained.

She uncapped it carefully.

Then...

Without making the slightest sound...

She dropped the liquid into the snack box.

One drop...

Two drops...

Three drops...

Four drops...

After making sure every drop had fallen inside...

She closed the bottle.

Then she gently shook the snack box so everything mixed naturally.

Finally...

She closed the lid exactly the way it had been before.

No one would ever suspect it had been touched.

Outside the room...

Veeransh instinctively took a step forward.

His eyes burned with anger.

"Bas..."

(Enough...)

He was about to enter.

Before he could move another step...

Rudra immediately caught his wrist.

Veeransh looked at him.

Rudra slowly shook his head.

Not yet.

Veeransh clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

It took every ounce of self-control not to storm inside.

Inside...

Kalpana looked towards the sleeping Vanya once again.

She smiled in satisfaction.

"Ab mujhe baar-baar risk lene ki zaroorat nahi padegi."

(Now I won't have to take risks again and again.)

"Yeh kaafi hai."

(This is enough.)

She quietly placed the tiny bottle back into her pocket.

Meanwhile...

Lying on the bed...

Vanya heard every single word.

She had woken up the moment Kalpana entered her room.

But instead of reacting...

She had chosen to remain completely still.

Her eyes stayed tightly closed.

Even her breathing remained steady.

Inside...

Her mind was racing.

"Hey Mahadev..."

She prayed silently.

"Please..."

"Paani toh maine badal diya tha..."

(I had already changed the water...)

A small sigh of relief echoed inside her heart.

But the very next second...

She heard the sound of the snack box opening.

Her heart skipped a beat.

"Nahi..."

"Please mere snacks nahi..."

(No... please not my snacks...)

She almost wanted to open her eyes.

But she controlled herself.

"Mahadev..."

"Mere snacks hi toh iss ghar mein mera oxygen hain."

(Mahadev... my snacks are my oxygen in this house.)

She felt like crying.

Sunita Aunty had specially prepared those snacks for her.

She loved eating them while reading novels.

Now...

Kalpana had ruined them too.

Vanya silently tightened her grip on the bedsheet beneath the blanket.

But outwardly...

She continued pretending to be asleep.

Inside the room...

Kalpana gave one last satisfied look around.

Then she quietly walked towards the door.

Outside...

The moment Rudra and Veeransh realized she was about to come out...

Both brothers immediately stepped away from the doorway and hid behind the nearby wall.

A few seconds later...

The door opened.

Without noticing anyone...

Kalpana walked away with a victorious smile on her face.

The sound of her footsteps gradually disappeared into the silent corridor.

Inside the room...

Silence returned once again.

Only after making sure Kalpana had completely left...

Vanya slowly opened her eyes.

She stared at the ceiling for a few seconds.

Then...

She slowly sat up on the bed.

The sleeping act...

Was finally over.

The corridor fell silent.

Kalpana's footsteps gradually faded away until they completely disappeared.

Only then did Rudra and Veeransh slowly step out from behind the wall where they had been hiding.

Neither of them spoke.

Both brothers were still trying to process everything they had just heard.

The truth...

It felt heavier than they had imagined.

Veeransh clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles had turned white.

His usually calm face was filled with guilt.

He lowered his head.

Rudra remained silent.

His cold eyes were fixed on Vanya's slightly open bedroom door.

For the first time in years...

He felt ashamed of himself.

Kalpana hadn't manipulated only Vanya...

She had manipulated them too.

After a long silence...

Veeransh finally spoke again.

"Sabse pehle..."

(First of all...)

He looked towards the room.

"...woh snacks hata dete hain."

(...let's throw away those snacks.)

Rudra nodded once.

If Vanya accidentally ate them...

No one knew what could happen.

The strange liquid...

Whatever it was...

They weren't going to take that risk.

Veeransh took a deep breath.

His eyes darkened.

"Aur Kalpana..."

(And Kalpana...)

He paused.

For the first time...

His voice carried unmistakable anger.

"Usse is sab ka hisaab dena hoga."

(She'll have to pay for everything she's done.)

Rudra's expression remained unreadable.

But his reply was enough.

"Zaroor."

(Definitely.)

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

The kind of calm that appeared before a storm.

Kalpana had crossed every limit.

She hadn't only lied...

She had tried to manipulate Vanya's mind.

She had poisoned the people around her against her.

And today...

She had crossed another line.

She had mixed something into Vanya's food.

That alone...

Was enough for Rudra to decide she wouldn't escape the consequences.

For a few seconds...

Neither brother moved.

They simply stood outside the room.

Neither of them wanted to enter immediately.

Inside...

They could hear no movement.

Inside Vanya's Room...

Vanya sat cross-legged on her bed.

Her eyes were still fixed on the closed door.

After making sure Kalpana had completely left...

She finally let out a long breath.

Then...

She looked upwards.

As if someone invisible was sitting on the ceiling.

Her lips immediately formed into a pout.

"Mahadev..."

She complained dramatically.

"Aapke iss chhote se bhakt ke saath hi aisa kyun hota hai?"

(Mahadev... why does this always happen to your little devotee?)

She folded her arms.

Her expression looked exactly like a child complaining to her parent.

After a few seconds...

Her irritation shifted.

This time...

Towards someone else.

The author.

She huffed.

"Aur woh author..."

(And that author...)

She frowned.

"Usse bhi chain nahi mila kya?"

(Couldn't that author have made things easier?)

She flopped backward dramatically onto the bed.

Looking at the ceiling...

She continued grumbling.

"Past likhne mein kya problem thi?"

(What was the problem with writing the past?)

She sighed loudly.

"Story seedha Rudra aur Siya ke milne se hi shuru kar di."

(The story directly started from the time Rudra and Siya met.)

She covered her face with a pillow.

Her muffled voice echoed through the room.

"Usse pehle kya hua..."

(What happened before that...)

"Kisi ko kuch nahi pata!"

(Nobody knows anything!)

She threw the pillow aside dramatically.

Then looked at the ceiling again.

As though Mahadev Himself was listening.

"Hey Mahadev..."

She sighed.

"Jab dusre log reincarnate hote hain..."

(When other people get reincarnated...)

She began counting on her fingers.

"Kisi ko special powers milti hain..."

(Some get special powers...)

Another finger.

"Kisi ko system milta hai..."

(Some get a magical system...)

Another finger.

"Kisi ko future ka poora knowledge hota hai..."

(Some know everything that's going to happen...)

Another finger.

She stared at her own hand.

Then looked at herself.

"Aur main?"

(And me?)

She blinked.

"Mujhe kya mila?"

(What did I get?)

She answered her own question.

"Confusion."

A pause.

Then another answer.

"Aur tension."

(And stress.)

She pointed dramatically at herself.

"Bas!"

(That's it!)

After a moment...

She sighed again.

Her expression softened.

"Mujhe toh yeh bhi nahi pata..."

(I don't even know...)

She looked towards the window.

"...ki asli story shuru hone tak kya-kya hone wala hai."

(...what is going to happen before the original story even begins.)

She rubbed her forehead.

The original novel...

Started when Vanya turned twenty-one.

Everything before that...

Was completely unknown.

Which meant...

Every single day she spent in the Rathore Mansion...

Was unpredictable.

She had no plot to follow.

No spoilers.

No future knowledge.

Nothing.

She looked upward once again.

This time...

Her complaint sounded almost pitiful.

"Mahadev..."

"Yeh aapne apne iss chhote se bhakt ke saath accha nahi kiya."

(Mahadev... you didn't do this right with your little devotee.)

She folded her hands dramatically.

"Kam se kam ek chhota sa hint hi de dete."

(At least You could have given me one tiny hint.)

A few seconds passed.

Nothing happened.

Vanya blinked.

Then pouted.

"Dekha?"

(See?)

She muttered to herself.

"Reply bhi nahi karte..."

(You don't even reply...)

Outside the room...

Neither Rudra nor Veeransh had any idea...

That while they were making plans to protect her...

The girl inside was busy arguing with Mahadev and complaining about the novel's author.

A few moments later...

Rudra looked towards the slightly open bedroom door.

He took a deep breath before speaking.

"Chalo."

(Let's go.)

Veeransh nodded silently.

The two brothers carefully walked towards Vanya's room.

Their footsteps were almost inaudible.

Neither of them wanted to disturb her sleep.

Slowly...

Rudra pushed the door open.

Both brothers stepped inside.

But the moment they entered...

They froze.

Vanya wasn't sleeping.

Instead...

She was sitting on her bed...

Holding her snack jar in both hands.

Both brothers exchanged startled glances.

A Few Minutes Earlier...

After complaining to Mahadev for several minutes...

Vanya's eyes slowly wandered towards the bookshelf.

More specifically...

Towards the snack jar.

She stared at it.

Then...

A painful expression appeared on her face.

She sighed dramatically.

"Vanya..."

She pointed at herself.

"Tum bhi na..."

(Honestly, Vanya...)

She shook her head.

"Jar ko saamne hi kyun rakha?"

(Why did you keep the jar right in front?)

She let out another sigh.

"Cupboard ke andar baaki snacks ke saath rakh deti."

(You should have kept it inside the cupboard with the other snacks.)

She rested her chin on her knees.

Looking at the jar...

She pouted.

"Aur woh aunty bhi na..."

(And that aunty too...)

She frowned.

"Mere snacks mein hi woh liquid daalna tha?"

(She just had to put that liquid in my snacks?)

She folded her arms.

"Paani mein hi dobara daal deti."

(She could've put it in the water again.)

She muttered dramatically.

"Mere innocent snacks ka kya kasoor tha?"

(What did my innocent snacks ever do?)

After a few seconds...

She climbed down from the bed.

Walked towards the bookshelf.

Picked up the contaminated snack jar.

And without hesitating...

Walked straight to the dustbin.

She opened the lid.

For a brief moment...

She looked at the snacks sadly.

Sunita Aunty had lovingly prepared them.

Throwing them away genuinely hurt.

She closed her eyes.

"Tumhari kurbani kabhi bekaar nahi jayegi..."

(Your sacrifice will never go in vain...)

With one swift motion...

She emptied the entire jar into the dustbin.

Every single snack fell inside.

She looked into the empty jar.

Then sighed dramatically again.

"Emotional damage..."

She whispered.

"Mujhe emotional damage ke liye snacks chahiye."

(I need snacks to recover from this emotional damage.)

After throwing the contaminated snacks away...

She opened the cupboard.

Inside...

Several more snack jars were neatly arranged.

Her eyes immediately sparkled.

"Aha..."

A smile slowly spread across her face.

"Mere asli heroes."

(My real heroes.)

She picked up another snack jar.

This one was completely untouched.

She hugged it dramatically.

"Tum logon ne hi iss ghar mein meri izzat bacha rakhi hai."

(You all are the ones keeping me emotionally alive in this house.)

She smiled proudly.

Then slowly opened the lid.

Present Time...

Just as she was about to take her first bite...

The bedroom door quietly opened.

Neither Vanya nor the brothers made a sound.

For a brief second...

Everyone simply stared at each other.

Vanya blinked.

Rudra looked at the jar.

Veeransh looked at the jar.

Then...

Veeransh's eyes widened.

His heart almost stopped.

From where he was standing...

It looked exactly like the same contaminated snack jar.

Without thinking...

He sprinted forward.

"Vanya!"

Before she could react...

Veeransh snatched the jar out of her hands.

And with all his strength...

He threw it onto the floor.

CRASH!

The glass jar shattered into countless pieces.

Snacks scattered across the floor.

Silence.

Complete silence.

Vanya stood frozen.

Her eyes slowly shifted...

From the broken snacks...

To Veeransh...

Then...

To Rudra.

Confusion completely covered her face.

She blinked once.

Twice.

Three times.

She still couldn't understand...

What had just happened.

For a few seconds...

No one spoke.

The only sound in the room was the tiny pieces of broken glass settling on the floor.

Vanya's eyes remained fixed on the shattered snacks.

Her lips trembled.

Then...

In a small, heartbroken voice, she whispered,

"Mere... snacks..."

(My... snacks...)

She looked as if she were about to cry.

Seeing her expression...

Both Rudra and Veeransh immediately panicked.

Rudra took a step forward.

His usually cold voice softened.

"Angel... I'm sorry."

He looked at the broken snacks on the floor before looking back at her.

"Please don't cry."

He sighed.

"Woh snacks Kalpana ne contaminate kar diye the."

(Those snacks had been contaminated by Kalpana.)

"Isiliye Veeransh ne unhe tod diya."

(That's why Veeransh broke the jar.)

Veeransh nodded immediately.

His face was full of guilt.

"Haan, Chhoti..."

(Yes, little one...)

"Main tumhare liye abhi naye snacks lekar aata hoon."

(I'll bring you another snack jar right now.)

Vanya immediately raised her index finger.

"Ek minute."

(One minute.)

Both brothers stopped.

She folded her arms.

"Pehli baat..."

(First of all...)

She puffed her cheeks.

"Main Chhoti nahi hoon."

(I'm not little.)

She proudly pointed at herself.

"Main badi ladki hoon."

(I'm a grown-up girl.)

Veeransh blinked.

Rudra almost smiled.

Vanya continued.

"Aur doosri baat..."

(And secondly...)

She pointed towards the dustbin.

"Yeh wale snacks alag hain."

(These snacks are different.)

Then she looked at them as if they had missed something obvious.

"Pehle wale snacks toh main pehle hi dustbin mein phek chuki hoon."

(I had already thrown the previous snacks into the dustbin.)

Silence.

Rudra frowned.

Veeransh looked confused.

Both brothers slowly turned towards the dustbin.

Then...

Towards the broken jar on the floor.

Then...

Back at Vanya.

Realization slowly dawned on them.

Rudra looked at her.

"Tum..."

He paused.

"Kalpana ke room mein aane se pehle hi uth gayi thi?"

(You were already awake when Kalpana came into your room?)

Vanya nodded honestly.

"Haan."

(Yes.)

Another silence filled the room.

The brothers exchanged glances.

Vanya suddenly looked at the broken snacks again.

She dramatically placed a hand over her heart.

"Mere snacks..."

(My snacks...)

She looked first at the dustbin.

Then at the broken snacks scattered across the floor.

She looked completely devastated.

"Pehle Kalpana Aunty ne mere snacks barbaad kiye..."

(First Kalpana Aunty ruined my snacks...)

Then she slowly pointed at Rudra and Veeransh.

"...aur ab aap dono ne bhi."

(...and now you two did the same.)

She sighed dramatically.

"Aakhir mere snacks ne sabka kya bigaada tha?"

(What did my snacks ever do to anyone?)

Both brothers were speechless.

Out of everything that had happened...

Out of Kalpana trying to manipulate her...

Out of the dangerous liquid...

Vanya was mourning...

Her snacks.

Rudra stared at her in disbelief.

He couldn't help saying,

"Kalpana tumhe control karne ki koshish kar rahi thi..."

(Kalpana was trying to control you...)

He frowned.

"Aur tumhe snacks ki padi hai?"

(And you're worried about snacks?)

Vanya looked at him as though the answer was obvious.

Before she could reply...

Veeransh suddenly froze.

His eyes widened.

Something flashed through his mind.

His expression changed instantly.

He hurried towards Vanya.

Without thinking...

He gently held both of her shoulders.

His voice was filled with urgency.

"Vanya!"

She blinked.

"Kya?"

(What?)

Veeransh's heartbeat quickened.

His mind replayed Kalpana's confession.

The water bottle.

The liquid.

His face turned pale.

"Tumne paani piya tha?"

(Did you drink the water?)

Vanya looked at him in confusion.

Before she could answer...

Veeransh spoke again.

His voice was full of panic.

"Oh my God..."

He looked at Rudra.

"Hospital... nahi..."

He corrected himself immediately.

"Doctor ke paas chalte hain!"

(Let's go to the doctor!)

Rudra's expression instantly turned serious.

Both brothers waited anxiously for Vanya's answer.
